Serbian Superliga: Round 1 Review

FK Partizan began their defence of the Serbian Superliga with a 4-0 victory over Metalac. It was a particularly good day for debutant Valeri Bojinov who turned in a man of the match performance by scoring the third goal, and setting up the first two. The first goal came after 16 minutes, with Andrija Zivkovic coolly converting from the edge of the box. The second goal followed 5 minutes later, with Aboubakar Oumarou scoring a poacher’s finish. The third goal was scored after 31 minutes, with Bojinov well placed to score a volley from close range. The win was completed in the last minute, as veteran midfielder Sasa Ilic beat a Metalac defender and curled a long range finish into the top corner.

Borac Cacak came from behind to defeat Radnicki Nis 2-1 at home. Radnicki led 1-0 at half time after a 37th minute finish from Anton Zemlianukhin, who powerfully finished from the edge of the box. Radnicki continued to have chances in the second half, but it was Borac who equalised instead of Radnicki doubling their lead, with Milan Jevtovic heading home at the back post. However, as Radnicki continued to have the larger share of the chances, Borac scored the decisive goal on 83 minutes. Vladimir Krstic broke away from the defence and delicately chipped the ball over the goalkeeper.

Radnik Surdulica marked their first game in the top flight with a 0-0 draw away to Spartak Subotica. The game was very evenly matched, and neither side was able to find the winning goal.

Vozdovac began the season with a 2-0 win away to Rad. Marko Adamovic opened the scoring for Vozdovac on 31 minutes, as he beat the goalkeeper to a knockdown inside the box. They secured the win on 77 minutes, with Borislav Terzic getting on the end of a low cross and poking home beyond the keeper.

Mladost Lucani started their season with a brilliant 3-0 away win to Jagodina. The first 2 goals both came in the final 5 minutes of the first half, the first coming from the penalty spot. A Jagodina player handballed in the box, allowing Vladimir Golemic to score a powerful penalty into the bottom corner on 41 minutes. Mladost doubled the lead just a minute later when Milo Mijic capped off a wonderful team move with a low finish into the bottom corner. The rout was completed on 71 minutes when Lazar Jovanovic latched onto the end of a deflected shot, which rolled beyond the helpless Jagodina goalkeeper.

Javor Ivanjica left it incredibly late in a 1-0 win away at Novi Pazar. The only goal of the game came on 87 minutes through Nnaemeka Ajuru.

New Crvena Zvezda manager Miodrag Bozovic won his first game in charge in an enthralling clash with OFK Belgrade which ended 6-2. OFK raced into a shock 2-0 before half time with goals from Kommen Andric and Dejan Drazic. Amazingly, Bozovic was sent to the stands before half time, leaving Crvena Zvezda staring defeat in the face. However, the Crveno-beli responded phenomenally and were level within 5 minutes of the restart as Mamadou Mbodj and Luka Jovic put the game back in the balance. Almost immediately after this, OFK gave away a penalty which resulted in a second yellow card for Bogdan Planic. The spot kick was scored by Vukan Savicevic, and he then scored again 6 minutes later which gave Crvena Zvezda a 4-2 lead, just 12 minutes after they were trailing 2-0. The result was wrapped up with a brace for Josh Parker who scored 2 late goals.

Serbian Cup winners Cukaricki opened their season with a fantastic 4-0 win away at Vojvodina, thanks to a brilliant hattrick from midfielder Andrija Pavlovic. Over the course of the game, Vojvodina had significantly more shots, but Cukaricki were very clinical, scoring 4 of their 8 shots. Pavlovic scored his first after 38 minutes, after a defensive mistake put him clean through. He rounded the keeper and rolled his shot into an open goal. He scored again on 58 minutes after a cross was deflected into his path, before coolly placing the ball into the far corner. Just 7 minutes later he had his hattrick, with another defensive mistake coming to his aid. The Vojvodina goalkeeper was trying to clear the ball when he lost the ball, and Pavlovic was on hand to convert a difficult finish from 35 yards out, even if it was into a open goal. The rout was completed when Nikola Stojiljkovic headed home a free kick on 89 minutes.
